International Driving Permit (IDP)

Requirements:

  • Application Form (obtainable at AAM)
  • AAM Membership Card
  • 2 coloured passport size photographs
  • Current driving license (must be valid throughout IDP period)
  • Fee of RM150.00

Each IDP is valid for one (1) year only. IDP can only be issued to applicants holding a valid Malaysian driving license, regardless of the nationality of the applicant. “P” license holders are not eligible to apply for IDP.

International Circulation Permit (ICP)

Temporary permit for foreign registered vehicles for tourists wishing to drive in Malaysia. Valid for 90 days. First renewal for another 90 days is possible. Second renewal can only be obtained from Road Transport Department (JPJ).

Requirements:

  • Vehicle Registration Card
  • Valid AAM Membership
  • “Carnet de Passage”
  • Malaysian insurance
  • Declaration and application form
  • AAM documentation fee


Carnet de Passage

Document to exempt Customs Duties. E.g.: if a vehicle entered Malaysia, customs duties will be exempted if this document is presented to the authorities.

Requirements:

  • Vehicle Registration Card
  • Valid AAM Membership
  • Letter of consent from Finance Company (for hire purchase vehicle)
  • Malaysian insurance
  • Banker’s Guarantee equivalent to the vehicle value (refundable)
  • AAM documentation fee

Depending on the intended usage, the vehicle must be inspected to ensure that all details of vehicle conforms to those stated in the Vehicle Registration Card.
